Today's watchtower admits they appoint people who are sinners
by hoser infrom paragraph 12. one brother began viewing pornography at the age of 12, and he continued to do so in secret for over a decade.
he relates: it was very hard to admit to my wife and to the el- ders what id been doing.
but now that i have admitted it, i feel that a huge weight has been taken off my shoulders.

Any strategies to deal with elders who just don't like you?
by toto555 inso any ways to deal or cope with elders who just don't like you (you didn't do anything wrong or they're just making stuff up about you) assuming that you can't leave?
especially when it comes to for example becoming appointed as an elder.
or are you pretty much "dead in the water" if the elders are determined to like you despite reasonable efforts to win them over.

A belated welcome, toto555!
So many excellent thoughts are presented here.
'Kill them with kindness,' as stillin said and gave examples of worked for me. Little drops of water -- continually -- did the trick. Like The Searcher, I was overlooked constantly at Q&A sessions, even if mine was the only hand raised. Veiled comments about me, too, came from the platform. A trusted friend was warned by a particular few not to talk to me.
Now I laugh!
I'm in a different hall now and the lovebombing I get is genuine and heartfelt. I love these people -- I need community -- and I've decided that crazy doctrine and weird rules and regulations will not again separate me from family and lifelong friends.
Best regards.

"...A God's Voice, And Not A Man's!" (Acts 12:22; 2 Thess. 2:3, 4) ... That Day Is Here!
by bjc2read inquestion: how are members of the governing body of jehovah's witnesses themselves, actually viewed by jehovah's witnesses today?.
well, the following related experience may help answer that provocative question, giving us a glimpse of what the possible future days will bring us.
yes, the answer to that question may even be quite shocking to us, ... with simply terrible, disastrous results!!!

There were two Brothers Knorr.
During one of many slide presentations of official WT sojourns to the Third World was a shot of Nathan Knorr holding in his arms a little African Witness boy. He was chuckling over the fact that the parents named the lad "Brother Knorr" in his honor. What a namesake!
Where are you, Brother Brother Knorr ? You'd be about 40 years old by now.

Good work, Terry!
Holst's "Mars the Bringer of War" would be the perfect musical backdrop.
I find your style evocative of Clark Ashton Smith, whose grotesqueries make the anticipant reader squeal with fiendishly lip-smacking relish and quiver with timber-shaking undulations.
Love, too, those ululations . . .

OK..Seriously..Has GOD ever answered your prayers????

Greetings, DATA-DOG:
Taking into account all that has been said on this thread and others like it over the years, I tend toward other explanations for why a prayer may seem to have been answered. My prayers of yore had been "answered" in relation to my activities and conduct as a JW. Therefore, I don't know where Jehovah actually fit in as I consider my current belief-in-flux position.
Nonetheless, one experience that still has me nonplussed centers around my life in Brooklyn and Manhattan, circa 1970. I took a noisy bus ride to a forgotten destination, but recall that the friendly driver said to sit behind him so he could tell me when we arrived at my stop. He chatted loudly away and, as was my wont, I wanted to witness to him: impossible, due to noise and confusion. Over the course of the lengthy trip, he revealed point by point personal information: the district he inhabited; the street he lived on; the number of his apartment complex; his name. All this was given me as he gabbed away; I didn't ask a single question.
I got off, went my way armed with this vital back call material. Somewhat later, Truth book in tow, I located his apartment complex and found his name, Patrick Davis, on the registry and went to his door. He was surprised to see me and I gave him the book . . .
Wonder where he is now.
